One of the things that make our all-natural and organic jerky unique is the absence of artificial flavoring and MSG.
Glutamate is a naturally occurring amino acid, and it is found in foods that contain proteins like mushrooms, milk, and fish. On the other hand, Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is manufactured with only the sodium salt of glutamate. It is processed and designed to be a food flavor enhancer, and it is found in so many foods. Food industries often camouflage its presence using deception and clever labeling practices. The only reason for this is because many people don’t like or are suspicious of MSG. The companies which process foods with MSG label their foods with a “no added MSG” label. This is a claim that means there was no MSG poured in the product but the claim doesn’t say if the MSG was processed in the product.
MSG was introduced 30 years ago and since its introduction:
- Cases of Type II Diabetes have doubled
- Obesity, especially in children, has gone up with alarming rates
- MSG is used to inject lab animals to induce obesity. The pharmaceutical companies use these animals to test their drugs.
The effects of MSG are cumulative. The symptoms might not come at once, but MSG builds up in our body and until the body reaches its “threshold of sensitivity.” MSG over-stimulates the nervous system. The bad thing with MSG is that it is not something your body can fight. Ingesting it can cause a myriad of problems including:
- High blood pressure
- Excessive weight gain or obesity
- Adrenal gland malfunction
These are some of the cumulative effects of MSG. However, if you ingest MSG on high levels and regularly, you might get adverse reactions to foods that contain MSG. These reactions are called MSG symptom complex, and they include:
- Chest pain
- Facial pressure or tightness
- Tingling, numbness or burning in the face or neck
These symptoms are mostly mild, and they do not require any treatment. However, if you ever experience any reaction to foods containing MSG, you should avoid them completely. Take precautions to eliminate MSG from your food diet by avoiding fast foods because they add it to enhance flavor and get you addicted to their foods. Carefully read product labels at the market avoiding those that contain MSG.
A team of researchers back in 1957 decided to see if glutamate (the natural amino acid) could help repair a diseased retina. They fed rats MSG, and they were shocked by the results. Instead of repairing the disease, the MSG destroyed the retina cells that allow vision! A neuroscientist used NSG a decade later to study how it destroyed the retinal cells, and he found out that it also destroys part of the brain. It causes the neurons become over excited virtually exciting themselves to death and he called this excitotoxity.
