What is “All Natural” beef jerky?
The term “natural” is defined by the USDA as meat that is raised for human consumption without any artificial ingredients or additives with minimal processing.
What is “Organic” beef jerky?
In order to be certified “organic” by the USDA, meat production has to follow strict guidelines and rules. Livestock must be raised on 100% certified organic pasture and receive no growth hormones or antibiotics.
Do you use grass-fed beef?
Yes! Because our grass-fed beef jerky contains lower fat than, for example, grain-fed beef. The leaner meat has fewer calories of fat per gram (9 calories per gram), but protein and carbs in grass-fed meat account for just 4 calories.
Where does the beef come from? Is it from free-range cows?
The cows where our beef originates are free to roam their home pastures. They are given no antibiotics, and their food is hormone-free throughout their lives; the beef comes from healthy, happy cows.
What does “Minimally Processed” mean?
The USDA defines a “minimally processed” product as one that is processed in a manner that does not fundamentally alter the product.
How many grams of sugar are in your jerky?
As little as 1 gram per 1 ounce serving. In addition to being gluten-free, our product contains a minimal amount of sugar; our goal is to provide an organic snack that is healthy and a great source of energy at the same time.
How long does beef jerky last?
Our proprietary jerky pouch allows the jerky to stay fresh for 18 months from the date of manufacture. Each bag is labeled with a “best by” date. Golden Valley Natural jerky should remain fresh for five days after you open the bag, but most people only need a few minutes to finish the delicious snack.
Does your jerky contain nitrites or MSG?
No. Our all-natural beef jerky is nitrate- and nitrite-free and contains no MSG, so you don’t have to worry about additives and salts that can adversely affect your health. We make conventional, all-natural, non-gmo, and certified organic meat snacks.
Are your products gluten free?
Some of our products are gluten free, including: Organic Beef Jerky (Teriyaki, Black Pepper, Sweet N’ Spicy and Bar-B-Que); and All Natural Turkey Jerky (Bar-B-Que).
What is the best way to store jerky to keep it fresh and make it last long?
Every bag has a printed expiration date. Our jerky will last longest if kept packaged; once the bag is opened, you can keep our grass-fed beef jerky fresh for about five more days refrigerating it.
Is beef jerky a good snack to eat when trying to lose weight?
Yes! Only whole ingredients are used, plus our jerky is gluten-free and no artificial ingredients are added. Grass-fed beef also has fewer calories per serving so our jerky is a great addition to your diet if you’re trying to lose weight.
Is beef jerky a better source of protein compared to traditional protein bars?
In almost every case, the answer is yes! Despite their claim as a healthy food, many protein bars are loaded with sugar, the actual nutrients vary, and they can contain as many as 400 calories. In comparison, beef jerky is less than 100 calories per 1 ounce serving.
How are meats cured?
Our high quality conventional, all-natural, non-GMO, and USDA certified organic meats are cured in a 200,000 sq. ft. facility that we opened in 2015, where our products are cured with no added preservatives. No MSG is added, and all our jerky products are nitrate- and nitrite-free.
Is jerky considered a "healthy" snack?
Absolutely! Our process cuts out nitrates, nitrites, antibiotics, and MSG, so our organic grass-fed beef jerky is healthy in that respect. It’s low in fat and a rich source of protein.
How long does it take to dehydrate the meat? What is the drying process; is it organic (sun-dried or processed?)
We use all organic methods. The length of time for dehydrating meat can depend on the thickness of the cut, but drying is generally an overnight process.
What are the health benefits of eating jerky?
Beef jerky is high in whole ingredients and protein, which is essential for the body; protein is broken down into amino acids needed to produce enzymes and build tissues. There’s also some healthy fats, zinc and, depending on the flavor, carbohydrates.
